Play Therapy, Vicarious Trauma & Irish Music - August 9, 2016

Today we had a full day of presentations. We began with learning about vicarious trauma and it was interesting to learn about the transformation that occurs within the counselor as a result of emphatic engagement with the clients. One thing I did enjoy learning about were the ABC's that stood for awareness, balance, and connection. 

We then had a presentation on "Play Therapy in Ireland" by Fidelma Twomey. She went through the qualifications to be a play therapist in Ireland. One of the things I did find interesting was to learn about the difference in qualifications in Ireland versus them in the United States. Counseling in Ireland is difficult because it does not have the same support nor respect that it does in the states. To become a counselor and practice as a counselor is fairly simple compared to in the United States. However, it was great to see that there are individuals and organizations that share a love and commitment for the field.

Dr. JoLynne also did a presentation on Play Therapy "Counseling Children: A Unique Counseling Specialty" and it was great to have a view on two different countries.






We also had an incredible presentation on the International Association of Counseling by Naoise Nelly.


                    

After a long day of presentations we had a well deserved evening off! We hit up a couple pubs, enjoyed a few drinks, and live music!
