Meeting in Dublin - Wednesday, August 3, 2016

Today we left Chicago and took the 7 hour flight to Dublin. When we arrived, we took a short bus or taxi ride to Trinity College, which will be our home during our time in the institute. Trinity College of Ireland is equivalent to the Harvard of the U.S. It is the most prestigious college to attend in Ireland and only costs 2,700 Euros a year to attend. The young woman who sat next to me on the plane earned her college degree and doctorate program in Neuroscience from Trinity College. She said it was a ‘brilliant’ place to live and study.

When we arrived on campus, we walked with our luggage along the cobblestone walkways and were welcomed by two enthusiastic Trinity students from the accommodations office. Then we all moved into our apartments, which are quite spacious and equipped with a small kitchen and living area.

I joined a few people for lunch and enjoyed a delicious meal. I had a olives, calamari and lemon ravioli. Then we met about half the group and walked to a local grocery store called Dunns, which is located in the basement of a clothing department store. I loved looking at the different food available –cheese, meats, pre-made meals of Sheppard pie, soups, cereal, gluten-free options, and desserts.

In the early evening we met and walked to Café en Seine where we got to know the other participants. There is a nice mix of graduate counseling students, counseling practitioners, retired counselors, and other professionals (special education, healthcare, law, etc.). Together we shared appetizers – mini burgers, onion rings, shrimp tempura, egg rolls, chicken skewers, chicken wings, french fries, salad, olives, cheese, and vegetables. It was a relaxing and enjoyable first evening together in Ireland.
